Curfew continued to be imposed by the authorities in Kupwara district Sunday for the fifth day due to tense situation following the killings of five civilians. However, no clashes or protests took place during the day. The internet remained blocked on the third day today in the entire valley. Normal life returned to normal in rest of the valley, as shops were opened, and the public transport plied on the roads. And curfew was lifted from Srinagar. As per KNS correspondents from districts in the Valley, life returned back to normal after four days of uneasy calm against the Kupwara killings. Due to rainfall and Sunday, people largely remained indoors and movement of public transport was also vey less.Meanwhile, train services between Baramulla and Qazigund resumed on Sunday after remaining suspended for four consecutive days.

As per KNS correspondent, curfew was imposed by the district administration, but there were no clashes between youth and forces or protests by the people in any part of the district.Strict curfew was in place in the Handwara town, which was the epicenter of the present protests. Residents said that they were not allowed to move out of their homes by the forces.Kupwara has been on boil as two civilians were killed by forces during protests against the alleged molestation of a school girl by an army man. Three more civilians were killed by forces in the district on the subsequent days during protests against the killings of two boys in Handwara.Inspector General of Police, Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gilani told KNS that the situation remained normal during the day amid curfew that was in place due to the volatile situation in the district. “No incident of clashes occurred in Kupwara,” he said.
