Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday shot a letter to Secretary General of Organisation of Islamic Co-operation.In the letter, Mirwaiz has thanked the OIC for its support to Kashmir movement and also apprised the organization about the latest situation in the disputed region. The letter reads, “May I take this opportunity to write to your Excellency about the grave situation of atrocities and abuse of Human Rights of the people of Jammu & Kashmir at the hands of Indian forces. The people of Kashmir for the past seven decades have been struggling for the exercise of their right to self-determination accrued to them under United Nations Charter and the resolutions passed by UN Security Council on Kashmir Dispute and they have given huge sacrifices in terms of life, property and what not for the achievement of this right.”“However, to deny them their legitimate right, Kashmir is being ruled by the dint of military power, aspirations of the people are being trampled under the jack-boots and their rights usurped by the state’s coercive machinery by using all possible means of suppression and coercion.”

“It appears now that the state power has waged a war against the un-armed civilian population of Jammu & Kashmir. Only in the past few days five un-armed civilians Nayeem Qadir Bhat, Muhammad Iqbal, Jehangir Ahmad Wani, Arif Hussain Dar a class 11 student including a woman Raja Begam were killed and dozens injured in the firing by the Government forces on the protestors who were protesting against the reign of terror leashed by the Army, Paramilitary and Police forces on the population of Kashmir. Repeated imposition of curfew and severe restrictions on the movement of the people has virtually turned the entire Kashmir Valley into a large prison. Almost all the resistance leaders have either been placed under house confinement or detained in police stations. The situation is very grim and needs immediate attention to protect the population of Kashmir from the current spree of violence and terror at the hands of the government forces.

”“Whereas I on behalf of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and on behalf of the people of Kashmir extend gratitude to your Excellency and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for upholding and supporting the legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination of the people of Kashmir and reiterating this on the occasion of  the 13th OIC Summit in Turkey.”“I also express gratitude to OIC for the establishment of the Standing Mechanism of OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) to monitor Human Rights situation in Kashmir as well as the proposal of sending Abdullah Al-Alim special representative of OIC on a visit to Jammu & Kashmir soon, I feel it is high time that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) along with the support of International Community especially the influential nations actively involves itself and takes up the issue with the Government of India about the flagrant and grave Human Rights situation in Kashmir in order to take measures to protect the life, honour and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir besides finding an honorable and lasting solution to the pending Kashmir Issue which is the main cause of misery and suffering of the people of this land.” (CNS)
