Besides the non-resolution of the Kashmir issue as per the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir being the main cause of uncertainty, the presence of army camps and bunkers in populated areas is also one of the reasons for occurrence of Handwara type massacres.According to a statement issued to KNS, in some areas in the Kashmir valley and the areas near the LOC in the Jammu province, the presence and interference of the Indian army in public affairs has turned the life of the concerned people into a hell. The presence of an army bunker in the middle of the Handwara town equipped will all modern vigilance technology is one of the reasons leading to the occurrence of the tragic incident in which four innocent persons were killed by the indiscriminate firing of the army personnel.

The people were protesting against the harassment of the common people by the personnel present in these bunkers who are addicted to intimidate the people. Such a bunker also exists in the middle of Kupwara town also and the people there also face the same problem. The dreadful situation created in Handwara is the result of the misdeeds and immoral activities of the army personnel deployed in these bunkers. One can feel the intensity of the highhandedness of the army and SOG of police personnel by the fact that the people working in their farmlands and walking on roads and streets got hit by the bullets of guns used with criminal carelessness by the personnel. An old aged woman namely Raja Begum got killed in her vegetable farm while collecting vegetables for her home.

Scores of innocent people walking in the fields and markets got injured without any provocation at all.Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI) demands immediate removal of all the camps and bunkers of the Indian army existing in the populated areas and stern and deterrent action against those personnel who are involved in the indiscriminate firing upon the common people and also stresses upon the world nations and organizations of Islamic countries and the international human rights bodies to appoint an impartial commission to probe all the blatant human rights violations so far committed by the Indian forces and other related agencies in Kashmir since 1990 and utilize their political and diplomatic pressure against the government of India to get these atrocities stopped. The promises of probes made by the government of India in such incidents so far have proved a total fraud and deception; as such any probe to be conducted by the government of Indian agencies is not acceptable to the people at all. None of the personnel involved in such gory incidents have been given any stern punishment but most of such cases were closed declaring as “not proved”. The announcement of investigation in the Handwara massacre is also not acceptable to the people because it will be all a futile exercise. Jama’at demands a probe by some impartial international agency so that the victims get justice. (KNS)
