In order to prevent protests against Killing of three people in North Kashmir’s Handwara district yesterday at the hands of Army, Authorities on Wednesday have imposed curfew in Handwara Township and curbs in some parts of Srinagar City in view of strike call given by separatists leaders. District Magistrate Farooq Ahmad Lone said that restrictions has been imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of six police stations including Rainawari, Maharaj Gunj, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Khanyarand Maisuma. Additional Police Personnel have been deployed in senditive areas of the city to maintain law and order. Major districts of Kashmir Valley also witnessed an enormous daylong bandh ahainst these killings.Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M), Yasin Malik Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front has been put under house detention. The separatist groups have called a joint shutdown call against the assassination of three persons in Army firing in Handwara village.

In a meantime, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has assured punishment to whosoever is responsible in killings of two youth and an elderly woman. She said that the security personnel involved in killing of three persons will be given exemplary punishment as such incidents cannot be tolerated since these have a Negative Impact on State Government’s Efforts to consolidate peace efforts. Director General of Police K. Rajendra has also assured crystal clear punishment for those who are having hands in killings.Pertinently, two youth Nayeem Qadir Bhat of Herpora Handwara, Muhammad Iqbal Farooq of Shalpora Drugmulla Kupwara were killed in army firing in Handwara district on the other hand an elderly woman Raja Begum succumbed to her injuries early morning of Wednesday taking toll to three.
