Raja Begum, in her fifties, wife of Mohammad Jamal Mir, who was admitted in SKIMS after she was hit by bullets, succumbed to her injuries at SKIMS at 2.30 am, taking the death toll to three.Raja Begum of Langate was in her vegetable garden in Kargam village, 2-km from Handwara town, when a stray bullet had hit her as protests were going on in Handwara town against the killing of two youths who were protesting the alleged molestation of a girl by an army man.Protests erupted in the Langate area after her body was received by the family members.Thousands of people participated in her funeral prayers at her native village in Langate this morning.
Protests have erupted in Handwara town this morning against the killings, with police firing tear gas shells in air to disperse the protests. However, the SP Handwara, Ghulam Jeelani Wani told KNS that situation is “under control” and the authorities have imposed curfew in the area to restrict movement of the people.The SP said that the body of the youth Mohammad Iqbal of Drugmullah, Kupwara, was handed over to his family for burial on Tuesday evening and his funeral prayers were held this morning, but the body of Nayeem Qadir Bhat is yet to be handed over to the family for burial.
