The Punjab government today approved a comprehensive plan to revamp the 3651.12 KMs arterial network of link roads in the state with an estimated budget of Rs.557.36 crore.Disclosing this here today, Mr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon PWD Minister said that tenders have been already floated to upgrade 3263 Kms to be completed at the cost of Rs.460 crore and PWD department has imposed strict quality control measures to ensure quality accomplishment of this gigantic task. He said that it is for the first time that such a large sum has been set aside for repair of link roads that are considered to be backbone of rural economy of the state. Mr. Dhillon said that tenders for 388.12 Kms link road upgradation at the cost of Rs.97.36 would be floated within next week. He said that completion deadline for this job has been fixed as September 2014. 

Disclosing this here today Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that strict instructions to the officers have been issued to achieve the deadline without delay. He said that in Punjab total length of Link Roads falling under 149 Market Committees is 58703 Km. Out of it 29922 Link Roads under 78 Market Committees falls under the jurisdiction of PWD (B&R) Punjab.Mr. Dhillon further said that the state of the art link road network in Punjab would provide much needed impetus to the proliferation of industry and trade in the state. He said that the better road network would also ease the traffic congestion of the roads.
