The government of Punjab has always taken an initiative in implementing welfare schemes and on the occasion of Baisakhi this year, BhagatPuran Singh Health Insurance Scheme will be launched for farmers, labourers and small traders. Under this scheme their families will be entitled to annual free treatment worth Rs.50 thousand and an accidental insurance worth Rs. 5 lakh in case of death of the head of the family, informed Public Relations Minister Punjab Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia while addressing the people of village Udoke and Udoke Kurd of his constituency.He laid foundation stones of scores of new development projects, disbursed the grant worth Rs.1.7crore for the same and also reviewed the ongoing development worksWhile addressing the villagers he said that under the health insurance scheme the head of a family and his dependant members of the family can also avail annual free treatment worth Rs. 50 thousand from the private hospitals. 

He informed that to dispense free treatment, in every district two renowned hospitals pertaining to the treatment of different diseases have been empanelled.Majithia said that  all the farmers across the state, who are actively engaged in producing crops can avail entitlement to the scheme by either showing the J-form which they get on selling their produce or by producing the copy of Jamabandi of their land as an evidence. Besides, the laborers and small traders can also take advantage of the scheme.He said that Punjab is the first state in the country to initiate this unique insurance plan and the entire premium of the insurance cover will be borne by the Punjab Mandi Board.  He said in the first phase around 25 lakh families are being given health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh. He said that in the next phase, which begins in May, more families will be covered.
