On the auspicious occasion of beginning of Holy Navratras today Governor N. N. Vohra, who is Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, participated in a brief ceremony for the commencement of the 230 bed Superspeciality Hospital at Kakryal, near Katra. The Hospital has been established by the Shrine Board in a sprawling campus at an investment of about Rs. 300 crore. It is pertinent to mention that the Governor has requested the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to inaugurate this Superspeciality Hospital on 19th April, 2016.The Jammu-based Members of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board: Dr. S. S. Bloeria, Mr. H. L. Maini, Dr. Ashok Bhan and Maj. Gen. (Retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma; Mr. B. B. Vyas, Financial Commissioner, Planning and Development and ex-CEO of the Shrine Board; Mr. P. K. Tripathi, Principal Secretary to the Governor; Mr. Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; Dr. M. K. Kumar, Additional CEO;Dr. A. Raghuvanshi, Vice-Chairman, Managing Director and Group CEO, NarayanaHealth; Dr (Brig.) Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital; and Dr. S. P. Singh, CEO, Narayana Vaishno Devi Superspeciality Hospital Pvt. Ltd. were present on the occasion. Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University; Mr. Surinder Kumar, DIG, Udhampur-Reasi Range; and Mr. Ajay Khajuria, Registrar, SMVD University were among those present on the occasion.The Governor, who has been personally monitoring the establishment of this flagship project of the Shrine Board and visiting the site almost on a weekly basis in the past 6 months, went around the various sections of the Superspeciality Hospital with Dr. Raghuvanshi, MD of Narayana Health. He interacted with the doctors, paramedics and other staff and emphasised the need for providing the best possible patient care so that the Hospital develops as a medical care centre of excellence.

Referring to the most modern computerised diagnostic and treatment equipments installed in this Hospital, the Governor emphasised the crucial need for their proper maintenance and optimum utilisation in the best interest of patient care.The Superspeciality Hospital has more than 20 different streams of medicine and surgery, including cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, neurology, neuro-surgery, nephrology, urology, oncology, pulmonology, bone-marrow transplant, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, trauma-medicine, paediatrics and neonatology, obstetrics and gynaecology. This Hospital shall have facilities to treat patients suffering from Cancer, Heart and Neurological diseases.The state-of-the-art computerised diagnostic and treatment equipments include Linear Accelerator, Brachy Therapy, Gamma Camera, MRI, CT Scan, Cath Lab, Endoscopy and Bronchotherapy, most modern Dialysis Unit and other related facilities. The Hospital has two well equipped Critical Care Ambulances. The Hospital has been providing free OPD services and diagnostic test facilities from 15thMarch 2016, during the pre-launch period.Dr. Raghuvanshi, Dr. S. P. Singh and Mr. Sahu informed the Governor about the to-date status of preparation and the positioning of doctors and other staff.

It may be recalled that the Shrine Board has concluded an Agreement with Narayana Hrudayalaya Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, which operates 32 hospitals all over the country, for operationalisation of the Superspeciality Hospital.The Superspeciality Hospital has a floor area of 2.54 lakh sft and residential accommodation of 2.67 lakh sft for housing doctors, nurses, paramedics and ancillary staff, besides a guest house for the visiting doctors. The Hospital Complex also has the provision of an Inn for enabling the patients coming from within and outside the State to stay, for recovery and follow up treatment, within the Hospital Complex on moderate payments. For the attendants of the patients a Dharamshalla has been set up and, besides, arrangements have been made for moderately priced food being served through the day. Among the many novel features of the Superspecialty Hospital project are the provision for rain water harvesting, solar energy utilisation, incineration of waste materials, generators for power backup, and two sewage treatment plants, a laundry, shopping complex, parking facility and various other required ancillary services.Doctors, paramedics, other staff of the Hospital, patients and their attendants, officers of the Shrine Board and others were present at the Pooja which was performed to mark the commencement of the Hospital functioning.
