The Punjab Forest department has accomplished a major initiative by planting 3 lac saplings along the roads sides in the Malwa belt of the state to achieve the target of 15% forest cover besides ensuring planned greenery in the area. This campaign has been launched after sustained removal of bushes from the roadsides.Disclosing this here today Mr. Chunni Lal Bhagat Forest & Wild Life Conservation Minister, Punjab said that under the Rs 9 crore project saplings have been planted in the 300 hectare area that included Bathinda-Malout, Malout-Fazilka, DMC Roads, Malout-Muktsar, Lambi-Gidarbaha and Malout- Satia Gano roads.  He said that earlier travelers on these roads had to face problems due to heavy bushes but now traffic would be hassle free on these roads as bushes had been cleared. The Minster said that under this five year project saplings have been planted and during next three years the plants would be looked after so that all plants grow properly. He said that Arjun, eucalyptus, Jaman, Burma Dek and Neem saplings have been planted along the road sides and wire has also been put around the area to save plants from animals. He added that ultra modern nursery at village Ratrian has been established under this project.
