On the directions of District Development Commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, an orientation programme on Solid waste management was organized by the District Panchayat officer for the PRI representatives from block Tikri here today.District Panchayat officer Udhampur Sukriti Sharma while speaking on the occasion highlighted the importance of Soild waste management for preserving rural environment as envisaged in SBM-G . She said that the basic principle of efficient Solid Waste Management practice is to reduce, reuse and recycle the waste and stressed that it can be reduced at the household level by segregating the non-biodegradable and biodegradable waste.Resource person from pollution control Board Scientist I/C MSW Anuradha stressed upon the stakeholders including farmers to adopt composting to manage Biodegradable or wet waste that will eventually improve the soil quality and environmental preservation .DPO further apprised that an extensive week long awareness drive will be organised from April 9th to generate awareness about the issue and important role of PRI’s in disseminating awareness about solid waste management. She said that earlier such orientation programme was organized for the PRI’s from Lower & Upper Rhembal of block Udhampur and gram sabhas are slated to be held in these panchayats on April 16th.
