Chief Secretary asks departments to collaborate in effective implementation of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Scheme in J&K

Chief Secretary, B R Sharma Wednesday called for coordinated and convergent efforts to eliminate all forms of discrimination against girls in the State.  Chairing a meeting of the State Level Task Force on Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Scheme, Chief Secretary said District Administration, Social Welfare, Health and Education departments besides Women's Development Corporation, Legal Services Authorities and other connected departments must collaborate with each other to ensure that objectives of the scheme are realised to the fullest.Chief Secretary said that at the District level, linkages with Panchayats, Anganwadi Centres, PHCs should be strengthened and more and more camps and workshops should be organised for public and functionaries of different departments to sensitize and train them on the issue of Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and value of girl child & her education.

Chief Secretary said mass awareness programmes will facilitate community ownership, participation and creating an enabling environment for survival, protection & education of girl child.He called on Deputy Commissioners to identify and felicitate meritorious girls who excel in the field of education, art, sports and social work so that they receive active encouragement to move forward.The Task Force reviewed the implementation of the scheme in various districts including Anantnag, Kathua, Pulwama, Budgam and Jammu.Secretary Social Welfare, Sanjeev Verma presented details about the district wise and State level progress achieved under the scheme.The Task Force also approved the multi-sectoral action plan for implementation of the scheme with greater focus on eliminating pre & post birth discrimination, education, economic empowerment and skill upgradation of girls
