The defeat of Indian cricket team by West Indies in the semifinals of T20 cricket World Cup has created an unruly situation in National Institute of Technology in Hazratbal here after some non-local students allegedly thrashed some local students who were purportedly celebrating the Indian team’s loss Clashes erupted after non-local students allegedly thrashed local students for cheering for West Indies in the semi final match of T20 World Cup played during Thursday night.The local NIT students said that they were heckled and thrashed by the non-locals for celebrating the defeat of India.According to students, a contractual employee of the institute Shuayb Shah was thrashed by non-local students. “They had even beaten up a courier boy who was inside the college that time. He has suffered fracture,” said a student who joined others in the 'protest against hooliganism.DSP Hazratbzal Majid Mehboob told KNS that the police is investigating as to what had really happened inside the college.“Police officials are meeting the director of the NIT college, and we will investigate the whole incident,” he said.

However, a student who lives in Pir Panjal range told KNS that the ugly situation was brewing up in the college from the last many days after the Indian cricket team defeated Pakistan in the ongoing T20 world cup match.He said that some local and non-local students had altercation between them on that day and the WI’s defeat of India turned the situation uglier after local students celebrated the win.He said that the police today entered the campus and beat up students and fired teargas shells to disperse the protesting studnets.Following clash between students NI, the authorities have closed the institute till further orders.“The decision has been taken due to denial of the students to maintain discipline even after repeated requests,” reads the order by the NIT, adding that the students have been directed to vacate the hostels.
