National Horticulture Board, Union Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with Department of Horticulture Jammu organised one day Farmer’s Awareness Camp here today. Farmers in large numbers from different districts of Jammu division participated in the programme and were made aware about various schemes and programmes of the NHB presently under implementation in the Jammu division.Director Horticulture A. K Sharma, Ex Director Horticulture J.L Sharma (Presently working as consultant with NHB), Ex Director Agriculture D. P Khajuria, Dy. Director NHB S. K Sharma, Chief Horticulture Officer YK Kesar, Major Gen. Retd. J. S Jamwal besides other officers were present on the occasion.The Director Horticulture while addressing the participants briefed them about the various programmes presently under implementation in the division and advised them to take maximum benefit by availing incentives available under them. He gave stress on the establishment of vermicompost units and vermibeds in their orchards as use of vermicompost is best and latest way for maintaining soil health and getting quality production.Consultant J.L Sharma, while interacting with the farmers briefed them about the guidelines of Nursery Accreditation Programme of Union Ministry of Agriculture, and impressed upon them to get their nurseries accredited so that the farmers can get quality plant material from these nurseries.Dy. Director, NHB while addressing the participants briefed them about various schemes being implemented by NHB in Jammu Division and urged them to come forward and avail incentives/subsidies under various components.D. P Khajuria spoke about the benefits of Bee Keeping in the orchards. Major Gen. Retd. J.S Jamwal also shared his experiences about maintenance of orchards on scientific lines.
