Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai has said that the labour and Industry should work in a close tandem in order to accelerate the industrial activities which would in turn ensure economic growth   and alleviation of poverty in the Country. The Advisor was speaking at a Two  day Conference on labour Law reforms organised by the department of Labour here today.Secretary Labour & Employment Ms Nirmal Sharma, Member Secretary State Legal Services Authority Mr. R.N Wattal, Labour Commissioner, Ms Vipra Behl, prominent Industrialists, Trade Union Representatives and senior officers of the department were present on the occasion.The Advisor said that in order to make the country one of the economic super powers as envisaged by the Prime Minister we have to ensure that the conducive work environment is created so that the labour force and the industry works  towards increasing the industrial output and providing  the requisite fillip to the country’s economy. He said that it is also important to take adequate steps to safeguard and promote the interest of the labour class and ensure that their economic profile gets elevated.

Mr. Ganai while referring to the existing labour laws said that the bottle necks in undertaking their amendment should be removed so as to make them more labour friendly. He said that in order to make Make In India initiative a success necessary reforms should be undertaken which would then be extended to the state.The Advisor also called for ensuring proper and sustained awareness about the welfare programs being undertaken by the government for the labour class. “These types of conferences and awareness programs should also be held at district levels so that the stakeholders get the requisite information about the various government schemes  and they can avail benefits from those’’, he maintained.Member Secretary SLSA, Mr. R.N. Wattal also spoke on the occasion and underscored the need of ensuring that workers are offered decent wages and provided the requisite social security. He said that equally contract labours should also be protected and covered under the works man’s compensation Act and social security benefits from various schemes should also be extended to them.Secretary Labour Ms Nirmal Sharma while speaking on the occasion gave an overview of the conference and the importance of labour laws, their implementation and the relevance.Labour Commissioner, Ms Vipra Behl also spoke on the occasion.Several Prominent Industrialists and Trade Union representatives also spoke and flagged various important issues of concern.
