Plantation Day was celebrated on 23rd of March, 2016 at Faculty of Forestry, Benhama/Watlar Ganderbal Of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir. The Event started with the Planting a Sapling of Pinus Species by Hon'ble vice chancellor SKUAST-K Professor Nazeer Ahmad. The Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal planted the sapling of Chinar at the newly developed campus of Facullty of Forestry. The other Officers who planted the saplings were Director Extension, Professor Afiffa Kamili,Registrar SKUAST K, Professor Mushtaq Ahmad, Dean Agriculture, Professor M Y Zargar, Students Welfare Officer Dr A A Sidiqi of Skuast K.
The dignitaries from District Administration were Senior Superintendent of Police, Imtiyaz and Chinar Officer Dr Inam planted the saplings during the Plantatiion Drive.The function started after the plantation drive which was addressed by Dean, Faculty of Forestry, Professor K N Qaisar. He threw light on the importance of world Arbor Day and highlighted the importance of trees in present climatic change scenario in which we have not witnessed much snowfall this winter. Hon'ble vice chancellor gave the target to the students and faculty members to plant at least 100 plants in their tenure and make this campus a green campus.
This land which was earlier a waste land without any plantation is now showing the view of a green campus day by day. In his speech he stressed upon the district administration to take the road and other facilities on priority basis. DC Ganderbal Showkat assured the VC of the university that it will be taken on priority at an earliest. He gave stress on the tree planting and making this event a grand success by way of more and more participation of local masses.Students of the Faculty, Afshana, Nafeesa, Qurat and Aaqib gave a talk on the importance of forests and climate change. Dr A H Mughal carried the proceedings.Dr T H Masoodi presented the vote of thanks and appreciated the efforts of the Organizers Dr Javaid A Mugloo and Dr S Naseem Geelani for organizing such a great event.
