Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone today inaugurated a two days exhibition on “New and Renewable Sources of Energy” at Tagore Hall wherein different lighting and heating products are showcased besides different products have been also put on sale.The exhibition is being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA)Speaking at the occasion, Dr Lone said that it is high time people adopt the renewable sources of energy, as the same would protect our environment too. Complimenting the efforts of JAKEDA, Deputy Commissioner said that the agency has done well in popularizing the solar power among rural and urban households in the state.
The Deputy Commissioner said that people too have become aware of the environmental challenges and they too want to help in mitigating the problems of climate change. He said that adopting renewable sources of energy is the best way to help our environment and the need of the hour is to encourage people to install solar panels on their rooftops and build houses that are south facing.We need to make changes in our architecture and build our houses facing south so that we can harness the energy of south in a better way, he said. Dr Lone also stressed on the need to adopt solar water heating equipment and solar streetlights so that load on state power resources is also decreased.A painting competition on the theme New and Renewable Sources of Energy was also held on the occasion wherein students from various educational institutions made paintings to depict conservation of environment and need to adopt renewable sources of energy.
