To acquaint farmers with latest tools and technology to increase production and quality, a Kissan Mela cum district level exhibition of modern machinery was today held at Mini-Secretariat Ganderbal. More than 1000 farmers and orchardists participated in the Kissan Mela which was a joint venture by Department of Agriculture and Department of Horticulture.District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal, Showkat Aijaz Bhat, who was chief guest on this occasion visited different stalls installed by Agriculture, Horticulture & other allied departments depicting the high yield hybrid seed varieties, plant saplings and latest machinery to be utilized for various farming related activities.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC urged upon the farmers to utilize the latest available tools and techniques besides high yielding crop and plant varieties to acquire maximum agriculture and horticulture produce.He also highlighted the aim of holding Kissan awareness camps and urged the participants to utilize these occasions for acquainting themselves with the latest inventions and discoveries in agriculture and Horticulture sectors.The District Development Commissioner directed the concerned Departments to keep vigil on the sale of spurious pesticides and fertilizers.Speaking on the occasion both Chief Agriculture Officer and Chief Horticulture Officer provided the achievements made during 2015-16 in their respective sectors.The joint venture was covered under the centrally sponsored schemes Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna (PMKSY) of Agriculture Department and Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) of Horticulture Department respectively.

Later in an awareness programme on Labour laws and Labour Schemes organised by Labour Department at Mini-Secretariat Ganderbal DDC, Showkat Aijaz distributed Rs 51 lakhs under Marriage Assistance Scheme among 172 labourers of the district.Earlier in the morning, DDC Showkat Aijaz also flagged off a rally which was organised by Department of Watershed Management Srinagar/Ganderbal to celebrate Global water day.Functionaries of Water Shed Management Srinagar/Ganderbal as well as people from both the Districts participated in the rally.Describing Water bodies as salvation of human kind, DDC sensitized the people about the importance of water bodies. The DDC stressed upon the people to keep local water bodies neat and clean.
