Member NCSK convenes meet with DC Srinagar for civic workers welfare

Member National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK), Vijay Kumar, along with the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, today convened a meeting of Safai Karamcharis of the district (civic workers) here to review measures taken for their welfare and compliance of Government of India guidelines regarding their wellbeing.The review meeting was also attended by Joint Commissioner SMC, Director Social Welfare, Chief Sanitation Officer, CMO Srinagar, SP East Srinagar J&K Police, concerned officials and a delegation of Safai Karamcharis led by their chairman.The meeting was informed that 2475 Safai Karamcharis are performing their duties in the city out of which about 1000 are daily wagers.The Member NSCK asked the Municipality authorities to augment their strength by recruiting more civic workers within a month so as to ease their work load.He also called for increasing the minimum wages of the daily wage workers who are currently being paid Rs 150 per day and ensuring their regularization within five years.

The Member NCSK said the work of civic workers needs to be acknowledged as their cleanliness work takes toll on their health and asked the concerned authorities to conduct their regular medical checkups and ensure that they get quality masks, caps, gloves, boots and uniforms.He also stressed for special crèches for civic workers children, proper housing for Safai Karamcharis, Community Halls and other initiatives for their welfare and wellbeing.On the occasion, DC Srinagar said that all steps will be taken for civic workers welfare and assured full cooperation of the administration towards their socio-economic upliftment.
