Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking edible oil and foodgrains for people in the 50 drought-hit districts of his state for at least six months. He also requested that if that was not possible, two litres of mustard/sesame oil should be provided per family every month. This would work out to 38,000 metric tonne mustard/sesame oil.The state government, Yadav underlined, was alive to the situation and making efforts to mitigate the problems faced by the farmers. Of the 75 districts in the state, 50 including Bundelkhand, were facing drought and 28 lakh families in these areas came under the Antyodaya category. Under the provisions of the National Food Security Act 2013, these families are to be given 35 kg foodgrain per month for which 32,000 metric tonnes of wheat and 68,000 metric tonnes of rice is required.
