Supporting the jewellers' demand, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said the Centre should roll back the hike in the excise duty that has been levied on jewellery. The Aam Aadmi Party leader said he would also write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about it.“I strongly object to the excise levied on the jewel sector by the Central government. I demand a roll back of the same. The Centre should accept its mistake and rollback the duty immediately.” His demand came after a delegation of jewel traders met Kejriwal and sought his support towards the rollback of the one percent excise duty levied on Jewellery. “Our party had raised this issue in the Parliament. I will write a letter to the prime minister on the issue and ask him to roll back the excise duty of one percent on Jewellery,” Kejriwal said.“Instead of harassing our jewellers, we should promote them. The Centre talks about 'Make in India' while on the other hand it is killing those who are making in India,” he added.
