Reiterating the commitment of the SAD-BJP government to eradicate the menace of cancer from the state, Punjab Chief Minister  Parkash Singh Badal today said that in order to give reprieve to the cancer patients the state government would provide medicines to them at subsidized rates. Addressing a mammoth gathering after inaugurating Sub pision hospital here today, the Chief Minister said that the SAD-BJP government was duty bound to make stupendous efforts for tackling this fatal disease which has made inroads in the state in general and Malwa region in particular. He said that though the exact cause of this disease was yet to be ascertained but the state government was making concerted efforts for providing relief to the patients suffering from this disease.  Badal said that the top priority of the state government was to ensure early detection of this disease and give prompt treatment to the patients suffering from it. The Chief Minister said that as the cost of the medicines of this disease was very high so the state government would soon launch a scheme to provide subsidized medicines to the cancer patients adding that in order to provide world class treatment to cancer patients an ultra modern hospital on the lines of Tata Cancer hospital Mumbai would come up soon at Mullanpur near Chandigarh. Likewise he said that the Baba Farid Health University has opened a centre at Faridkot today for diagnosing cancer and another would be opened soon at Bathinda for which Rs 60 crore has been already allotted to them by the state government. Lashing out at the Congress led UPA government in the centre, the Chief Minister said that under the guise of so called reforms the Union government was implementing its anti-poor policies, which were directly aimed at breaking the backbone of the common man. Reiterating that the mid terms polls were evitable in the country, he said that due to the differences amongst the key constituents of the UPA, this government would fall in the coming days.  Badal said that country was facing deep crisis as due to instability at the centre the governance at the national level had been affected adversely. Squarely blaming the Congress for all the social maladies like corruption, unemployment, poverty and others,  Badal said that despite of ruling the country for longest period of time the successive Congress governments have never bothered about the interests of the countrymen. The Chief Minister said that the Congress has always meted out step motherly treatment with Punjab due to which the all-round development of the state has suffered adversely. He said that recent testimony of injustice with Punjab was the denial of drought relief package to the state despite of the fact the distressed Punjabi farmers have suffered due to the late arrival of monsoon during the paddy season. Listing out the achievements of the state government the Chief Minister said that due to stupendous efforts made by the state government Punjab today leads the country in these fields adding that a special focus was being laid by the state government to further strengthen the infra structure of these vital services. In the same manner he said that focus was also been laid on providing vocational training to the youth for which 4 mega skill centre would be opened in the different districts of state to impart technical training to one lakh youth every year.  Badal also said that the state government has also embarked a special program for cleaning of the rivers in the state at the cost of more the Rs 2000 crore adding that potable drinking water would be supplied to all the villages in the state in coming two years. Earlier in her address the Lok Sabha MP from Bathinda Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that the UPA government has not framed even a single policy in its regime to benefit the poor whereas the SAD-BJP alliance government had laid thrust on the development of this stratum of the society. Terming the UPA government as the most corrupt government of India, she said that the Union Ministers had mercilessly plundered the tax payer’s money much to the dismay of the common man. However Badal said that the anti-people policies of the Union government coupled with the numerous scams had retarded the growth of country due to which the countrymen had suffered adversely. Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Cabinet Minister  Madan Mohan Mittal, MLA Drashan Singh Kotfatta, Principal Secretary Health Vinnie Mahajan Principal Secretary Medical Education and Research Anjali Bhanwra, Special Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister  KJS Cheema and Deputy Commissioner  Kamal Kishor Yadav.
