Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training (PSBTE & IT) has abolished the JET test for the year 2016-17. Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) appreciated the decision taken by Punjab government to abolish Joint Entrance Test (JET) in state. JET is already abolished by many states in country.PUCA President, Dr. Anshu Kataria while appreciated this decision, thanked to Shri Madan Mohan Mittal Technical Education Minister and Sr. Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Chairman, Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training (PSBTE & IT).It is pertinent that Joint Entrance Test (JET) is conducted by state government for 10th pass outs, as eligibility criteria for admission in various technical diploma courses. It is to be mentioned that there are 140 private and 25 polytechnic colleges are in Punjab. In the year 2015-16 only 40,000 out of 60,000 seats were filled up. 20,000 seats were left vacant. Therefore trend for appearing in JET is fading out now. On the pattern of Haryana, now Punjab government has decided to abolish JET test. Now admissions will be given on the basis of merit through online counseling.”
