Dhuri (Sangrur) , 23 Jan 2012

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President today said that he wanted to see smile on each and every face in Punjab. He said, he wanted every unemployed person in the state to have a job, farmers a decent living and all round progress across Punjab. “If you feel there is a need for change vote for Congress”, he appealed to tens of thousands of people here today.

Addressing two massive rallies in villages Bhular Herhi and Ghanauri in Dhuri assembly segment in support of the party candidate Arvind Khanna, Capt Amarinder regretted that during the last five years the people had only seen corruption, victimisaton, vendetta and open loot of state resources.

The PCC President said, both the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Chief Minister son Sukhbir Badal were reaping the whirlwind and they were stuck in their respective Lambi and Jalalabad assembly segments. “They are not sure of holding to their own assembly segments how can they think of ruling Punjab?” he asked while adding, this is the natural consequence when the rulers forget to govern and indulge in other things than governance.

Asserting that the Akalis had no vision and they had not learnt any lessons either, he said, they waited for the Congress manifesto to come out before they could bring their own. “Even what they brought out lacks both vision and direction”, he said while pointing out there was nothing new in their manifesto. “Either it was everything old packaged afresh or it was full of false promises and nothing else”, he remarked.

Asking people to vote for Congress to vote for change, he said, “if you want that 47 lakh unemployed people should get jobs, if you want the farmers should no longer commit suicides, if you want that Punjab should get debt free, if you want industry to come to Punjab and if you want agriculture to progress please vote for Punjab”.

Referring to Mr Badal’s wailing and whining over Punjab and its interests, Capt Amarinder said, he always exploited the sentiments of people to his own advantage. He pointed out, “Mr Badal will always set up morchas, get people killed and himself imprisoned in some government rest house and only come out when situation was fit for him to rule”. He said, Badal had neither ever watched the interests of Punjab nor that of the panth.

Promising to change profile of the area, he said, once Congress comes to power, he will ensure that the youth get employed and agriculture is remunerative. “Give me your vote and you will feel the change yourself”, he remarked.

Speaking on the occasion the party candidate from here Arvind Khanna asked the people to vote for him and he will serve them not just for five years, but for next twenty years.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included local MP Vijay Inder Singla, Bibi Labh Kaur, sister of late Sant Harchand Singh Longowal, Mai Roop Kaur, Laly Jawandha, Kikki Dhillon and others.
