Registration for The Urban-Ultra X-Tri Cross Country Triathlon 2016, organized by Urban Ultra and sponsored by Shurooq, will remain open until 11:59PM on March 19 or till spaces sell out. The event is back following its resounding success during its launch event in October 2015 and is going to take place on March 26 in the beautiful Kalba location on the outskirts of the Emirate of Sharjah. Participants can register for the event by logging onto http://www.urbanultra.com/.This is one of only two off-road triathlons in the Middle East and participants will be able to engage with nature as well as challenge their endurance. Participants will get to swim in the clear and tranquil waters of Kalba’s protected lagoon next to the mangrove nature reserve, then mountain bikeover soft hills surrounded by beautiful plants and wildlife in the mountainous region and finally do some trail running on fantastic goat and donkey trails.
This year theX-Tri Cross Country Triathlon will have a pro-athlete prize fund of AED 20,000, sponsoredby Shurooq. The event is open to both individuals as well as teams. Participants can choose between a sport or championship course distance, open to both individuals and teams. The championship distance includes 1.5km of swimming, 35km of mountain biking and 10km of running, while the sports course includes 750m of swimming, 18.5km of mountain biking and 5km of trail running. Sports enthusiast can camp by the sea in Kalba or in the stunning mountains. However there is also Kalba Camp providing wooden chalets for those who prefer camping in comfort. Kalba Camp comes with natural stone and wooden buildings, a fire pit and outdoor communal dining area. Dormitory-style rooms cost AED 100 per person or twin rooms come with an en-suite bathroom and cost AED 375.
