Presiding over 60th Annual Prize giving function of Government College Girls Sector 11, Chandigarh, today, the Governor of Punjab Haryana and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki  said women have been accorded a very high status in our society since time immemorial and we have been worshipping many goddesses, having different powers, be it shakti, vidya, wealth etc.The Governor said that this College has a noble mission and it must work tirelessly for educating women, equipping them with the skills and knowledge that will enable them to be productively employed and to serve the nation as well as humanity at large. He said a College is a sacred place where knowledge is imparted, values instilled in the youth and where they can seek intellectual pursuit.

Speaking on the occasion Prof. Solanki said that it was true that the emancipation and empowerment of women was one of the important guiding principles of our national freedom movement .He said we have achieved some success but still have a long way to go in fully realizing this idea. Women have established that they can undertake all types of missions and work - whether it be scaling the Himalayas, going into space, serving in the Armed Forces and Police, being administrators and diplomats, managing multinational companies or small businesses, joining professions like medicine engineering or teaching. He said to achieve this, educating women is an influential investment. It goes with the old Chinese proverb that if you want to plan for a year, grow wheat, if you want to plan for decades, grow tree, if you want to plan for a century, educate women. We have to improve the qualifications structure of women to enable them to fight against female feticide, he added.

Wishing all success to students the Governor said that he was confident that the education they had received in this great institution will help them in their journey of life. He said this would also make you productive and responsible citizens of India. He said that you all are lucky students that you are getting education from your principal who was also student of this very college. The Governor also distributed prizes to the students who excelled in their respective fields.Earlier, Prof. Dr. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the College read the Annual Report of the College.Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included, Mr. M.P. Singh, Principal Secretary to Governor, Mr. Rabinderjit Singh Brar, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration and Dr. Binu Dogra, Dean of the College.
