With the initiative of a local NGO “Pehal-The Beginning”, 50 brand new benches have been placed in different parts of the Mini Secretariat complex, here. These benches have been placed at those places where a large number of people come for getting their work done. The NGO has donated 50 benches and many more would be donated in coming days as well.These benches have been placed near the Deputy Commissioner office, Commissioner of Police office, District Courts Complex, District Treasury Office, Pensioners Bhawan, DTO office, Suvidha Centre, besides other areas located in the Mini Secretariat complex.
While speaking to media persons after inaugurating these benches, Deputy Commissioner Mr Ravi Bhagat said that these benches have been placed for the benefit of public who visit the Mini Secretariat Complex for getting their work done. He said that as the footfall in Mini Secretariat complex is very high, there was a need of proper seating arrangement for public here. He said that when this issue was discussed in a meeting, members of a local NGO, Pehal-The Beginning, came forward and readily agreed to install 50 benches for public in the mini secretariat complex. The Deputy Commissioner urged other NGO’s also to come forward and donate for such social causes.
Tanvir Singh Dhaliwal, founder, Pehal-The Beginning and Municipal Councillor said that these benches have been installed free of cost for the benefit of city residents on the occasion of International Women Day. He informed that 50 more such benches would be installed in the same complex shortly. He also thanked Mr Sarabjit Singh from Nightingale College of Nursing and Education, Narangwal, who donated for this cause.Prominent among those present on the occasion included ADC Mr Ajay Sood, Prof Narinder Singh, Mr Satpal Singh, Mr Taranjit Singh, Mr Vipan Sagar, Mr Lakshay Arora, Mr Ravi Arora, Mr Kanwaljit Singh, Mr Gurmandeep Singh Bajwa, besides several others.
