Ajit Singh Kohar Transport Minister Punjab issued strict warning to the unauthorized driving institutes operating in the state enrolling people for driving learning. In a statement issued here today, Kohar said that the officers of the department have already been directed to identify fake driving schools operating without any norms in Punjab. He said that strict action would be taken against such institutes. Kohar also said that the Punjab government has initiated a number of steps to provide quality driving training facilities to the people of the state. The government was committed to provide organized and systematic driving training, said Kohar. There were more than 150 government authorized driving institutions are running in the state.Kohar, who is the Chairman of Punjab Road safety council, said that 3500 people lose their lives every year in Punjab due to road accidents. He said that systematic training would act as vital tool for reducing road accidents in Punjab. He also urged the parents of adolescent children to dissuade them from driving till they become eligible for a driving license. While emphasizing the need of strict compliance of the government’s directive to implement road safety norms and traffic rules, Kohar said that there were more than 900 unmanned crossings in the state, out of which 75 were declared sensitive. He said that Punjab Government would soon take up the case of unmanned crossing with the Union Government. Besides this he said that speed governors would be installed on the vehicles and random checking would be conducted for drunken driving all over the state.
