The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, today inaugurated a special plantation drive here at Government Degree College.The   Div Com planted different species in the college campus and launched the drive organised by the college authorities. DDC Budgam, Director Social Forestry, Principal Degree College Budgam, SSP Budgam and district officers were also present on the occasion. They also planted different plants on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Samoon said that the administration has set the target of planting 10 lakh plants of different species across the valley during this year.   He said efforts would be made to cover maximum barren and deserted land in the valley.He said the Government departments like Forest, Social Forestry, Horticulture, Sericulture and NGOs have been roped in to support the administration in this endeavour.

The Divisional Commissioner stressed the need for concerted efforts to increase green cover in Kashmir valley by planting more and more trees. “To restore the pristine glory of valley and maintain ecological balance there is need for massive plantation” he asserted.    He urged upon the students of the college to play their part in creating awareness about the plantation and its future benefits.While hailing the initiative of college authorities, the Div Com assured   that the demands of college will be looked into and taken up with concerned authorities for early redressal.On the occasion, the DDC said that during this year about 4.20 lakh plants of different species across the district will be planted and in coming days various departments like Education, RDD, Forest/Social Forestry will be roped in to make this initiative a success.
