National Conference Thursday said that the political uncertainty prevailing in the state due to the failure of the PDP and BJP to form the government was dangerous for the volatile Jammu and Kashmir.Omar Abdullah, Working President of NC asked the PDP and BJP for “how can the people in the state wait for the government.”“Two months are nearing now after the death of Mufti Sahab. We want to ask the PDP and BJP for how long can the people in the state wait for the government. Either form the government or if you are not prepared then tell the Governor to dissolve Assembly so that we can prepare for fresh elections,” Omar told reporters at Nawai Subah headquarters of the party after addressing a youth convention.“The prevailing situation is not beneficial for the state and the keeping political uncertainty in the state is dangerous. Both the parties should rise above their party interests and instead of thinking for their parties interests they should think of the state,” the former chief minister said.
The NC leader said that the party was ready for the Assembly elections if the PDP and BJP don’t form the government.“We are ready for elections if the PDP and BJP don’t form the government. And then the Governor has also indicated that to hold ULB and Panchayat elections we have to prepare for those polls,” he said.Before the PDP and BJP cobbled up the alliance in March last year, the NC and Congress had offered PDP an unconditional support to form a “secular” government.However, today Omar said that now it is “useless” to offer the same support to PDP.“We and offered unconditional support to PDP because we wanted to keep BJP away from forming the government. Mufti sahab did not accept our offer,” Omar said.“Now the BJP has made its entry with the help of PDP into the state. Today, RSS is doing its activities in Srinagar.
Gujjar hutments are burnt in Jammu and police has fired on the people there. So there is no use to offer unconditional support to PDP. Had PDP accepted the offer, we would not be seeing the prevailing situation,” he said.Over the ongoing situation in the south Kashmir where militancy related activities have intensified in the last two years, Omar said the situation in south Kashmir need to be dealt politically not administratively.“I am not worrying about encounters, but the automatic law and order situation that emerges after encounters and then the use of force by the government, which becomes a self fulfilling prophecy that further aggravates. The situation which could be dealt politically is dealt administratively. Until elected government and representatives don’t deal with these issues, situation in south Kashmir will not improve but will deteriorate more,” he said. (KNS)
