The abrupt change in climatic conditions in mountainous region has left everyone including experts bewildered as to what should be the common sense behind the phenomenon that not only changed the perception of winter in Kashmir but also distorted the system of sustenance.February has been the coldest month in Kashmir in winter season however the way people have been experiencing its charisma seems valley may witness drastic change in overall ambiance keeping in view the unexpected change in weather conditions.Chilai Kalan the forty days harshest stage which is followed by Chilai Khurd this time gives a picture of tentative climate as both phases ended with no or minor snowfall in Kashmir.Experts attributed climatic changes in Kashmir with abundant axing of forests with increase in pollution by one or other ways denoted that all is not well with bionetwork.“Since ‘global warming’ has spread its horrific tentacles world over these changes in climate cannot be ruled out at all.

The most important factor which has played spoilsport with regards to change in climate is deforestation,” an expert from Kashmir University said.He said until and unless deforestation is continues Kashmir may face even drastic changes in climate which may not be favorable for people and the fragile ecological system. Moreover people from November to March have been consuming pulses to avoid viral and desiccated diseases however this season people could be seen enjoying ice cream and soft drinks as there are no signs of snowfall in predicted by MeT in near future.Wearing of traditional Phiran that keeps people warm in winters is replaced with cotton shirts or light pullovers as the people who however shivers with cold in this month seems least bothered regarding the implications of February.“We feel warmth of May in February, we really enjoyed this year as the climate remains moderate with no snowfall in Kashmir,” Irram Manzoor a class 3rd student of Malison Girls School said.
