Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today gave nod to the architectural design and layout of new campus of Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University Bathinda to be constructed at a cost of Rs 300 crore.A decision to this effect was taken by the Chief Minister while presiding over a review meeting of the University this evening at his residence.Taking part in deliberations, the Chief Minister said that the upcoming campus must be an architectural marvel, which should be a blend of modern and traditional Punjabi architecture. He laid thrust on having eco friendly campus with facilities like Rain water harvesting, solar panels and comprehensive single duct for efficient maintenance of all the services. Mr. Badal also said that special emphasis must be laid on sprucing up the campus with green belts by ensuring state – of-the-art landscaping in the campus. “These green belts will enhance the beauty of campus on one hand and help in checking the pollution by acting as green lungs on the other”, he added.

The Chief Minister also underlined the need to start the civil work of the upcoming campus at the earliest, to be completed within a time span of maximum 18 months. Meanwhile, it was also decided in principle that the foundation stone of this ambitious project would laid by the Chief Minister in mid of April this year. Likewise, it was also finalised that in the first phase the construction of Administrative block along with academic block would be undertaken whereas in the second phase the remaining part of the campus would be covered. The upcoming campus to be spread over about 70 acres of land would also have separate hostels for boys and girls besides residential accommodation for teaching and non teaching staff. Prominent amongst other present in the meeting included Chief Secretary Mr. Sarvesh Kaushal, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. KJS Cheema, Secretary Technical Education Mr. Rakesh Verma and Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. MPS Ishar.
