Appealing the state administration to conduct judicial probe in the killing of a Gujjar protester who was allegedly killed in police firing in Sarore area of Samba district on Monday, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tuesday demanded that the action against encroachers should not be selective and the involved police official should be dealt with strictly as per law.Addressing a presser in Jammu, former Education Minister, Naeem Akhtar condemned the killing of Muhammad Yaqoob, a resident of Sarore area of Samba district and demanded the judicial probe should be ordered at earliest.He told reporters here that the there is no need use bullets against the unarmed protesters. “The protesters were only resisting the officials to stop the demolition drive in their area. The accused involved in the killing should be dealt with strictly,” he said.
Demanding that the Police should be made answerable for the act, Akhtar said that the killing could have been avoided if police followed the standard operating procedure while dealing with the protesters.While appealing Governor N N Vohra to rehabilitate the homeless people before demolishing their residential places, Akhtar said that they stand against any type of encroachment but government’s selective demolition drives against poor and homeless people raised several questions marks. “The action against the encroachers should not be selective,” he said.He said that the powerful persons also hold several thousand Kanals of land illegally, but such kind of drives always starts from the poor people.
