CPI(M) senior leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has said that National Food Security Act (NFSA) has been launched in haste without a proper and perfect ground work across the state. In a statement to KNS, he alleged that discrepancies surfaced in the uploading of the data on the national portal have not been addressed and even more lop holes have detected after the launch of the scheme. It is beyond comprehension that the Act has been launched without addressing the concerns shown by the masses from time to time, which has resulted into chaos and confusion among the consumers. The CAPD department has itself been put to massive problems due to casual approach adopted in the implementation process. He said that glaring example of mis-categorization of beneficiaries, exclusion of rationees and imperfect data updation has created mis-givings and apprehensions among the masses smelling mis-handling and mis-management in the implementation of NFSA.

The CPI(M) leader suggested for a review of the database and categorization of rationees under priority, non-priority and exclusion category, besides removing the short comings, duplicity and multiple errors. He reiterated his demand for food security for the entire population of the state by providing 35 kgs ration to each family @ Rs.2/- per kg. A resolution was moved by CPI (M) on the subject that was unanimously adopted by the Legislative Assembly on 27.08.2014, he added.Tarigami said that more public outrage is expected with the advancement of the implementation of the Act, if corrective measures are not taken well in time.A large section of the population especially those born in 2011 and onwards who have been left outside the preview of subsidized ration be included in the same, he urged. He sought Governor’s intervention for enhancement of coverage under NFSA from the central government and suggested the Governor’s administration to take note of the protests that have sparked after the implementation of the Act. All measures for making the Act viable, transparent and consumer friendly, must be taken at appropriate levels. (KNS)
