The Chandigarh-Punjab Union of Journalists (CPUJ ) affiliated to Indian Journalists Union has strongly condemned the police inability to take action against those who attached and manhandled media persons in the premises of the Patiala House Delhi Court on Monday and Wednesday The Union President Vinod Kohli in a statement today said that when such incident was expected to happen why not the police had made proper arrangements of media persons’ security. The police remained mute spectators while the media persons were targeted, he said.
The Patiala House court incident raises very serious questions on the credibility and impartiality of Delhi Police. It is beyond any reasonable understanding how journalists can be attacked in the presence of police, he said.Mr Kohli demanded an immediate inquiry into the matter so that guilty could be brought to book and punished. The Union was also approaching the Press Council of India in this matter to impress upon the authority to ensure proper security to the media persons.
