Expressing grave concern over the BJP’s oft-repeated assertion that the agenda of alliance is a sacred, visionary and historic and it is committed to implementing it in letter and spirit, Prof Hari Om on Wednesday asked the BJP high command to hold an open debate on it to ascertain the people’s views on.The BJP is ruthlessly violating the nationalist mandate for the sake of power, he said, and added that it cannot outrage the sensitivities of the people of Jammu region and Ladakh and play with the paramount national interests in the strategic J&K in such a brazen manner. It will be considered a sin against India and murder of democracy, if the BJP again bartered the Jammu and Ladakhi mandate for a few chairs in the Kashmiri-controlled and Valley-dominated Council of Ministers and State Cabinet.

“By describing the agenda of alliance as a sacred, visionary and historic document and by appreciating the PDP’s obnoxious vision for J&K, the BJP has violated the mandate that it got in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections,” said Prof Hari Om. “The BJP had fought these elections on the basis of its national manifesto and on the poll planks as contained in its ‘Vision Document’ and got massive mandate from Jammu province. The BJP had also sought and got people’s mandate in Jammu province by holding out a solemn commitment that it, if returned to power, will controvert the baneful influence of such divisive demands as self-rule, greater autonomy and return to the 1975 position on the state’s polity and society, fight for the unity and integrity of India and protect and promote further the interests of the neglected and marginalized people of Jammu province and Ladakh region,” He further said. He added that what the BJP did after the Assembly elections was a complete negation of all those poll planks that had inspired the Jammu electorate and motivated it to vote en-block in favour of the BJP. The BJP committed an act of political dishonesty by throwing to the wind its election manifesto and vision document, lamented.

“It is unfortunate that the BJP has been willfully ignoring the Jammu and Ladakhi sentiment and treading a path that would not only destroy the BJP as a party in the state but would also cause an irreparable damage to the nationalist constituency in the state and endanger the very unity and integrity of the country,” Prof Hari Om further said. He asserted that the people of Jammu and Ladakh, irrespective of their religious denomination and political affiliation, have developed an extreme form of hatred for the BJP.He claimed that all, barring a handful of Jammu-based agents of Kashmiri parties, are bitterly opposed to the agenda of alliance and they want this “dangerous” document to be thrown out lock, stock and barrel. Challenging the BJP leadership, he said: “Hold an open debate on the agenda of alliance to ascertain the people’s views on it and it will know the nature of their hatred against those who drafted and finalized it”.  (CNS)
