The 1st meeting of Inter Departmental Working Group on Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) was held here under the chairmanship of Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production, M A Bukhari. The Working Group on Monday discussed and scrutinised the District Irrigation Plan (DIP) of Reasi and approved it for submission to the State Level Sanctioning Committee headed by Chief Secretary. In respect of other 21 Districts, DIPs are in the final stage of completion and the same after scrutiny by the Working Group, shall be submitted for sanction.Complimenting the Chief Agriculture Officer, Reasi, Mohammad Iqbal for presenting a comprehensive and holistic irrigation plan of the district, the Working Group designated the officer as one of the master trainers for training officers of both the divisions to draw DIPs. For preparation of DIPs in the State, an amount of Rs 1cr has been sanctioned by the Government.Once DIPs from districts are received and approved, the same shall be submitted to the Union Government for funding.

Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojna (PMKSY) was launched in 2015 to achieve convergence of investment in irrigation at the field level, expand cultivable area under assured irrigation, improve on-farm water efficiency and enhance adoption of precision-irrigation and other water saving technologies. The vision is to produce ‘’more crop per drop’’ with motto of “Har Khet Ko Paani” thereby ensuring rural prosperity. The formulation and implementation of DIP is expected to bring efficiency in the use of irrigation water in the State. DIPs identify the gaps in irrigation infrastructure and are prepared at two levels, the block and the district. Block wise irrigation plan is to be prepared depending on the available and potential water resources and water requirement for agriculture sector prioritising the activities based on socio-economic and location specific requirement. The plans are being developed following intensive participatory consultation process including Panchayats besides leveraging technical, financial and human resources available with other line departments.
