After a mother contested police claim saying that her son was implicated in a false case, Deputy Inspector General of Police for North Kashmir Gareeb Das Tuesday said that investigation has been going on to find out to what extent the arrested youth are involved in militancy. “We have not produced any challan in the court of law yet and have been waiting for the investigation report,” Das told CNS. Police on January 25 had claimed that it arrested five militants who were planning to carry out strikes in the run up to R-Day functions. They were identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi, alias Umar, of Sopore, Danish Gaffar Gojri, alias Kalimullah, from Drangbal in Baramulla, Javid Ahmad Dar from Khanpora in Baramulla and Muhammad Sameer Kandoo, alias Sameer Baba, from Soura in Srinagar.

Fozia Begum, the mother of Javiad Ahmed Dar had claimed that her son is not affiliated with any militant organization and was working as a conductor with an LP truck (21175E).DIG North Kashmir said that parents don’t know actually what their children outside. “I can justify the claim of the mother who says her son is innocent because she doesn’t know what her son was doing beyond the four walls of his house. Still, we have been investigating the case to find out how deeply these youth were involved in militancy,” he said. Gareeb Das said that militancy in North Kashmir is dwindling and militants are not as active as they used to be. “Due to public support we managed to arrest scores of militants and at least 60 militants in North were neutralized in different gun fights last year,” he said.
