Kashmir Economic Alliance Monday called for a Valley wide shutdown against the ‘failure’ of the Central and the previous state government to rehabilitate flood hit victims of September 2014.Farooq Ahmed Dar, the acting chairman of KEA, an amalgam of various trade associations of Kashmir told CNS that they have called for Kashmir Bandh on Feb 2 against government’s “indifference” towards various sectors of Valley, including trade, tourism and agriculture, which received a serious hit in the floods in 2014.  He added that strike call was given and supported in General Body Meeting of Kashmir Economic Alliance. “Majority of the executive members of KEA were present in the meeting and it was an unanimous decision,” he said.“

We were forced to call for shutdown to protest government’s “failure” to look after the demands and compensate traders, transporters, fruit growers and common people. One and a half year has come to pass and authorities have refused to show the bare minimum political will to rehabilitate and compensate the flood victims,” Dar said.Meanwhile, Chairman KEA Showkat Ahmed Chwdari told CNS on phone that KEA has not given any strike call on Tuesday. “We don’t support any strike call and there will be no strike on Tuesday,” he said. Later in a hand out, Chodary claimed that KEA did not call any meeting it needs the support of 18 constituents of KEA to take any decision. “We have not supported or given any strike call,” Choweary reiterated.(CNS)
