Baramulla , 01 Feb 2016

The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon Monday met a delegation of Baramulla Beopar Mandal (BBM) at his office in Srinagar. The delegation apprised Dr. Samoon about problems faced by the traders and locals of Baramulla due to the closure of a foot bridge over Jehlum river which was damaged in September 2014 floods.

"The bridge accounted for nearly 95 percent of pedestrian traffic across the river. The government made an alternate arrangement which was also damaged. This has not only created extreme difficulties for school children but has also affected our business," the delegation informed the Divisional Commissioner.

After giving a patient hearing to the delegation, Dr. Samoon issued on-spot directions to the R&B's Chief Engineer to make provisions for restoration of the bridge while assuring the delegation that government will take all necessary steps to mitigate the sufferings of Baramulla residents. The delegation also sought repair and reconstruction of the main building of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Baramulla, which was gutted in 2010 fire. On the issue, the Divisional Commissioner asked Director School Education and DC Baramulla to immediately look into the matter. The delegation also sought deployment of staff and equipment at the old hospital building near Cement Bridge.

Dr Samoon directed Director Health Services to make the already existing Public Health Centre at old hospital Baramulla functional by providing round-the-clock healthcare services to the people. The Divisional Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to look into the matter of demarcating a portion of bus stand in Baramulla for non-registered private taxis and Matadors and hold a consultative meeting with the stakeholders.
