Emphasizing on alleviating a distinct disconnect between knowledge production and policy makers in Jammu and Kashmir, CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has said there is a dire need to take concrete measures to overhaul the education system instead of just measuring the performance in numbers. In a statement to CNS, Tarigami said: “The successive regimes and those who have been at the helm of affairs in the administration are responsible for the deterioration of the education sector in this state.

” He added that the successive regimes and the policy makers are responsible for the directionless educational policy that has sofar virtually rendered this sector unattended.Stating that the lack of infrastructure facilities have worsened the standard and motivation of parents for admitting their wards in government schools, Tarigami said that while we make teachers responsible and accountable for poor results and poor performance in the government schools, there is a dire need to improve the same by providing sufficient infrastructure.

The CPI (M) leader observed that any arbitrary reforms which lacks public debate and involvement of implementing agency unfortunately leads to recklessness. “The steps taken by the previous regime vis-a-vis reforming the education system has presently created a wedge between teachers community. Fact of the matter is that the steps taken by the previous regime proved faulty because the same lacked consensus,” the CPI (M) leader said while urging the administration at the helm of affairs to shun the path of confrontation and address the problems of teachers’ community through negotiations.
