A militant has been killed in a brief gunfight at Khalhar area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district today morning.Official sources told GNS that acting on a tip off, Srinagar Cargo and army’s 19 RR cordoned off a house at Khalhar around 3:00 am.Soon after the joint team of forces fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot, the militant hiding in the house opened fire on forces triggering off a brief encounter.In the gunfight, a militant has been killed, a police officer while confirming the incident told GNS.The slain militant has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Haroo @ Adil, a resident of Pushwara, Anantnag.
“Mushtaq was earlier affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and had joined LeT recently”, the officer said.After conducting all legal formalities, the body of the slain militant has been handed over to his family for last rites.Meanwhile, the slain militant was laid to rest amid thousands of people have attended the funeral prayers of the slain militant in his native village.Following the killing of the militant, clashes between protesters and government forces broke out in Khanabal area.Four persons including two policemen were injured in the clashes, reports said.
