Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today lashed out at revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia for the reign of terror let lose by him in his area. He said, Majithia must know that nothing is permanent and much less the power and one day he will have to account for his sins.Addressing an impressive public meeting organized by Lali Majithia here today, Amarinder regretted that Bikram despite belonging to a decent and respectable family had stooped to such levels where he had tried to muzzle the voice of his political opponents. He pointed out, Bikram only betrayed his fear and phobia by forcing all the marriage palace owners in the area against renting their premises for the Congress function. “If he thinks he can muzzle the voice of the Congress workers that way he is miserably mistaken”, the PCC President warned while adding, one day the same people will hold him the dock and ask him to explain his sins.“This is just a childish and immature act on part of Bikram”, he remarked, while adding that never in his political career had he seen such a childish behaviour by any politician howsoever powerful he may have been. He said, he had held public rallies even in the constituency of the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal but never had he faced such resistance borne out of fear.
The PCC President reiterated that the way the situation was developing in the state there was no guarantee whether this government will last the full term. He recalled, even during 1977 the Akalis had formed the government but they could not survive even for full three years and there is no guarantee that this may not happen again.Earlier talking to the reporters, Capt Amarinder said, he wanted to go to all the 117 assembly segments in the coming months to meet the workers. He said, the Congress was fully geared up for the parliamentary elections and the Akalis will be shocked into defeat. To a question about possible political alliance in the state for the parliamentary elections, the PCC President said, since Congress was a national party the alliances are worked out at the national level only. He said, the state units are asked about their opinion and feedback which will be provided whenever asked. However, he added, the current appeal he had made to the opposition political parties was only aimed at uniting them all against the punitive taxation imposed by the Akali BJP government in the state. He said, it was the need of the hour that all the opposition political parties should unite and come on a common platform.
Addressing the meeting Congress Legislative Party leader Sunil Jakhar had a dig at Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal for asking Amarinder Singh to stage dharna in Delhi for grants. Jakhar said, he will stage the dharna if need be, but let Sukhbir and his government give the account of thousands of crores of money that came from centre and has either been misused and embezzled by people like Gulzar Singh Ranike.Prominent among others present on the occasion included Fateh Jang Bajwa, Sukh Sarkaria, Harpartap Ajnala, Harminder Gill, Vikram Chaudhary, Jagdeep Sidhu, Major Amardeep, Jasbir Singh Dimpa and others.
