In yet another incident of violence, at least seven Kashmiri students sustained injuries after a group of goons allegedly thrashed them in inebriated state outside Swami Devi Dayal College of Engineering and Technology Golpore Barwal in Chandgarh, forcing them to flee. The Kashmiri students of Swami Devi Dayal College were on way to their rented accommodation in Shahzadpore when the goons thrashed them. “They were drunk and labeled us as Kashmiri terrorists. They thrashed us ruthlessly,” a B.Tech student Amir Jameel from Bijbehara told CNS adding that some of his friends including Tahmul Nisar and Majid Rafiqui from Anantnag, Sajad Ahmed from Doda, Amir Majid and Nayeem Ahmed from Baramulla sustained injuries.

The reason for their aggression against us was Pathankot attack. They labeled us as Kashmiri terrorists and ordered us leave the city and college. They not only thrashed us but also abused us,” the Kashmiri student said.Following the incident, the terrified Kashmiri students spent night on a Railway Track and left for their homes early morning. “Though we identified some of the goons yet we did not register a police complaint. Earlier when a group of Kashmiri students were beaten for cheering for Pakistan cricket team in Swami Parmanand College, Mohali Punjab in 2014, they had registered an FIR but contrary they were charged for sedition. This bitter experience stopped us to approach police station,” they said.

One of the victim students is the son of the Principal DIET Anantnag Muhammad Abdullah Shah. He told CNS that his son has to undergo city scan test as he has suffered multiple injuries. My son Amir Jameel left the examination midway and returned to home. He is scared and is not ready to attend the college again,” Shah said and appealed Governor of the State to take cognizance of such gory incidents happening with Kashmiri people in different Indian states.
