27th Road Safety Week : Secy Transport flags off Cyclothon at Jammu University

As part of ongoing 27th Road Safety Week, the Motor Vehicle Department in collaboration with Traffic Police organized a cyclothon which was flagged off by Secretary, Transport Department, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi from Zorawar Singh Auditorium , University of Jammu here this morning.IGP Traffic Viplav Kumar Choudhary, Managing Director SRTC, G.A. Sofi, Director State Motor Garages, Zakir Hussain, SSP Traffic Mohan Lal, Regional Transport Officer Jammu, Ashwani Kumar Khajuria, ARTOs, MV Inspectors besides officers/officials of MV and other concerned departments were also present on the occasion.Secretary Transport enjoined upon the MVD department to carry out such activities throughout the year so that the message becomes fully effective and people get aware about the traffic rules and precautions. He said that the Road Safety Week is being observed every year to educate the people about the road safety measures besides providing them an opportunity to take part in this noble cause.

Earlier, RTO Jammu elaborated on the importance of Road Safety Week and the activities being organized by the department.  He emphasized on the importance of road safety and need to disseminate information about the safety among the motor vehicle users especially youth. He appealed the people to keep their cars off the road once a week so as to reduce air and noise pollution, traffic congestion and to make Jammu clean and green.Nearly, 300 cyclists from Jammu and adjoining areas participated in the cyclothon which after passing through University Ground, University Back Gate, PHQ Chowk, University Main Lane, MAM College, Bikram Chowk, Asia Chowk, Green Belt, Mahaveer Chowk, Panama Chowk, and culminated at Jammu University Back Gate.During lucky draw, prizes were given to cyclists who participated in the cycle rally namely Mohammad Saleem, Vijay Hudda and Jatinder Singh respectively.The rally is a part of the Road safety Week organized to disseminate the message of road safety measures among masses besides use of bicycle instead of fuel consuming vehicles to reduce air pollution alongwith maintaining mental and physical fitness to live a healthy life.
