DDC launches drive against polythene bags

With a key approach to generate maximum awareness among general masses, the District Administration Udhampur under the able guidance of Deputy Commissioner Yasha Mudgal launched a massive awareness campaign against the use of polythene bags by organizing an awareness programme today at Girls Higher Secondary School located in the heart of the town.IAS Probationer, Mr. Ravindra Kumar, Chief Education Officer, Mr. Balbir Singh, Executive Officer Municipal Council, Representatives of Agriculture, NGO & other concerned department, staff and students participated in the programme.While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kumar deliberated upon the hazards of the use of polythene bags. He called upon the students to take an initiative of creating awareness among the local people living in their surrounding about environmental hazards related to its use. He also deliberated upon the solid waste management in their home.

The CEO listed the harmful effects of the use of polythene bags and causes choking of drains, water bodies besides polluting the land. He urged for desisting the usage of ply bags and organizing such valuable programmes at every nook and corner of the district.Among others who also spoke on the occasion were, Representative of Agriculture Department & NGO and Principal of the host school.Later, all the students and others present in the programme took a pledge against the use of poly bags.
