A team of the Legal Metrology department Kathua conducted intensive checking of various Business establishment especially Sweet Shops, Milk Shops, Bakery Shops, Confectionary shops, Provisional Store, Karayana shops at College Road Kathua, Hatli Morh, Hatli Road, and adjoining areas during last week.During inspection number of traders were inspected and among others one trader was booked for not marking the MRP on the Rice bags net weight 10 kg supplied by the Punjab based firm M/S Focal Point at College Road Kathua.After going through number of correspondences with the firm and local trader by the Department, the discrepancy in respect of violation of PCR on the Rice bags net weight 10 kg was admitted by the management of the Company through local trader and assurance was given to the Department for not repeating the same violation in future. As such, the case was compounded by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua and a penalty of Rs 10,000 was imposed on the erring traders for violation of different provision of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement (amendment) Act 2011 and Package Commodities Rules.
It is pertinent to mention here that Department also imposed a penalty of Rs 44100 on the 23 erring traders for violation of different provision of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement (amendment) Act 2011 and Package Commodities Rules after conducting more than 100 inspections during December 2015.The Department also installed four re-verification Camp at Nagri, Basholi, Preta Nagrota, Sanan Ghat during last month. Weights and Measures & Weighing and Measuring instruments of 251 traders were re- verified & stamped and re-verification fees amounting to Rs 46000.00 was realized from traders in these Camps. Besides organizing one major Consumer awareness Programme at Govt. Degree College for Women Kathua, the Department also organized four Consumer awareness programme at Govt. High /Higher Secondary Schools / Conference Hall of DC office Kathua in view of Consumer awareness Week.The Department has directed all the traders to use only those Weights and Measures and Weighing and Measuring Instruments for business transactions which have been verified and authenticated by the Legal Metrology Department and ensure that Maximum Retail Price( MRP), Date of Packing ( PKD), Net Contents and complete address of the Manufacturer/ Packer and Consumer care Number have been declared on the Commodities to be sold in package form as per PCR.The Department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from using unfair trade practices to cheat the innocent Consumers and also appealed to the Consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the Commodities.
