Different pro-freedom organizations Tuesday held protest demonstrations in Srinagar to demand implementation of the resolution passed by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on this day in 1949 calling for referendum in Jammu and Kashmir.Terming the lingering Kashmir issue as threat to peace and stability in South Asia, the protestors urged world community to intervene and appealed the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon to implement the January 5, 1949 UN resolution related to Kashmir.Scores of Democratic Freedom Party activists were detained after they tried to march towards the busy Residency road during a protest today.“Jammu and Kashmir is not any border dispute but an issue concerning the fate of 15 million population and if it is not resolved at earliest, all endeavors aimed at ensuring peace in South Asia will go waste,” they said.

They added on one hand, India is seeking the UN membership and on other side, is scuttling the voices and rights and is violating the charters of this very institution. Senior separatist leader and Islamic Political Party Chairman Muhammad Yousuf Naqash also staged a protest demonstration along with scores of his supporters.Kashmir is a humanitarian issue but UN, despite passing resolution guaranteeing right to self determination, never took a serious note of the military oppression which innocent Kashmiris have been braving for past seven decades,” Naqash told CNS who led the protesters.

Muslim League activists were detained at Sonwar when they tried to march towards to UNO office here. They chanted pro-freedom and pro-justice slogans. Chairman International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Mohammed Ahsan untoo led protest demonstration at Press Enclave here in which scores of children, youth and women participated, to demand implementation of January 5 resolution.Untoo told media persons that January 5, 1949 is an historic day in the history of Kashmir as on this day international community accepted the importance of  recognizing the human & basic rights of Kashmiri people but accepting  resolution which gave the kashmiri people the right to decide whether they want to be part of Pakistan or India.The resolution was also signed by Pakistani and Indian representatives thus accepting the importance of  Kashmiris decision to choose their future,” he said.
