Jammu , 31 Dec 2015

Traffic Police is organizing a mega bikers rally on January 3rd, 2016 (Sunday) in Jammu City to promote awareness about wearing crash helmet. The rally, in collaboration with Bikers Brotherhood Motorcycle Club India, will be flagged off from Jammu University at 10 A.M. and culminate at Gulshan Ground after passing through the City areas covering a distance of over 15 Km.This was disclosed by IGP Traffic, Mr. Viplau Kumar here today.  He said that non-wearing of helmets by the bikers, particularly the young bikers has been the major reason of fatal casualties in the accidents involving bikers.  During the last five years in the Jammu district alone, 381 persons have died in accidents involving bikers. These young precious lives could have been possibly saved, had the bikers been wearing helmets, added Mr. Kumar.

The IGP disclosed that Traffic Police has been launching special drives for strict implementation of traffic rules related to wearing of helmets during past few months. Since July 2015, during these special drives 72,330 persons have been booked by the Traffic Police for not wearing helmets. However, it has been observed that despite booking such a large number of violators, there has still not been strict compliance of rules relating to wearing of helmets by the bikers. A need has therefore been felt to promote awareness among the bikers that wearing of helmets by them while riding on a motorcycle is for their own safety only and not merely for escaping from the penalty, IGP said.

Mr. Kumar said that with these objectives, the Jammu Traffic Police is organizing a mega bikers rally in the Jammu city in which more than 1000 bikers are expected to participate. The bikers participating in the rally shall be given a certificate of participation. Those interested in participating in the Rally have to contact on phone no. 0191-2459048 and 9419147732. The bikers must have a valid driving license in order to be eligible for participation in the rally.
