Union Health Minister visits Night Shelters at AIIMS

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri J P Nadda visited the night sheltersat AIIMS and JPN Trauma Centre, here today. These night shelters are being run by Delhi Urban Slum Improvement Board (DUSIB), SashatraSeemaBal and CRPF.During the visit, the Health Minister interacted with the patients and their caregivers and distributed food packets to them. The Ministerexpressed his satisfaction on the amenities and care being provided to the inmates. ShriNadda said that “I have asked the authorities to make the best possible efforts to ensure that the inmates are provided amenities and are comfortable”. 

Currently, the shelters run by AIIMS include VishramSadan located in AIIMS Western Campus. AIIMS operates 3 VishramSadansRajgariyaVishramSadan, SurekhaVishramSadan and SaiVishramSadan.

These VisharamSadans function on “noprofit no loss” basis and are managed by the Management and Executive Committee. The total capacity of these Sadans is 435 beds. In addition, AIIMS also has night shelters in the form of Rain Baseras at JPN Trauma Centre managed by CRPF. Rain Basera at Western Campus and a Rain Basera near CDER are managed by DUSIB. Another Rain Basera near the Laundry, AIIMS, is managed by SashatraSeema Bal. The total capacity of these Rain Baseras is 1005 beds. These night shelters provide temporary accommodation to the outstation patients and attendants getting treatment at AIIMS. Beds are allotted for maximum of 14 days.
