Agitated people allegedly ransacked Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital (JLNMH) and thrashed medical staff after a woman succumbed giving birth to a new born baby. Sources told CNS, that Tasleema Bano (29) wife of Kaisar Ahmed, a resident of Sadrabal Hazratbal had been admitted in the hospital after developing labour pain. “She was normal but died on the operation table soon after the delivery”. The devastated family accused the hospital of medical negligence."It's a case of medical negligence. The hospital staff had no trained professionals to handle the case,” one of the relatives of deceased woman told CNS. Reports said that commotion prevailed in the hospital after Tasleema’s family and relatives heard of her death. The agitated family members allegedly smashed the windowpanes of operation theatre and slapped a senior doctor present on the spot.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Tajamul Hussain said that an inquiry committee has been constituted to probe the incident. “The family members lost control and caused damage to the hospital equipments. We have constituted a committee that will present its report within a week,” he said. When asked about the cause of death, Deputy Medical Superintendent said that it will be premature to say anything at this point of time. “Everything will surface after inquiry committee will present its report,” he added.Meanwhile, in a shocking incident, a pregnant woman ‘dying’ with labour pain was allegedly not attended by doctors at Sub-District Hospital Sopore on Saturday.

Reports said that a pregnant woman Mehfooza Jan wife of Bilal Ahmed Sofi, a resident of Tarzoo Sopore was admitted in the hospital on Friday. The woman developed severe labour pain on Saturday morning but ironically no doctor was present in the hospital. “We called a lady doctor (name withheld) who refused to turn up in the hospital saying she is busy at her home. We had no alternative but to shift Mehfooza Jan to a private Nursing Home where she gave birth to a baby boy,” the husband of Mehfooza Jan told CNS.The attendants who helped the family in shifting Mehfooza to Nursinghome expressed resentment and alleged that doctors at SDH Sopore frequently take patients for a ride and often remain absent from their duties.Medical Superintendent SDH Sopore Dr Sami said that he will look into the matter.
